INTRODUCTION
The interconnected story collection in Ruby’s Mystic World is in the vein of magic realism, a form of fiction that I think of as slightly wobbling as compared to science fiction which stretches the bounds of reality.
I wrote the story collection while exploring my own intuition. For me, it is like a walk into a dream world with gentle nudges from ancestors and spirit guides.
My main character, Ruby lives in a house of spirited relatives. According to her Aunt Wanda, “In our world time wrinkles for those you love. It’s how we can still communicate. Wanda is Ruby’s whacky, fun-hearted aunt from the 1920s that visits in ghostly form, along with Einstein who is a relative. Another ghostly friend of Ruby’s is JHL, who has two pairs of eyes, (all the better to see you with…depending on which dimension). They turn Ruby’s world inside out and help her to make sense of it all while she attempts to be normal in a house filled with their playful antics and of course wisdom that is often floating from the rafters and beyond...
